prof. Andrzej JasińskiANDRZEJ JASIŃSKI - was born on 23rd October 1936 in Częstochowa, where he studied at the Secondary Music School in the class of Stefania Borkowska. He continued his studies with Władysława Markiewiczówna at the State High School of Music in Katowice, graduating with honours in 1959. In 1960 he received the Grand Prix at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona. In 1960-1961, he continued his studies in Paris with Magda Tagliaferro.

In 1961 he appeared with the Turin RAI Orchestra under Carlo Zecchi, beginning an international stage career. He made several concert tours of the USSR, and appeared at music festivals in Czechoslovakia, Germany, Uruguay, Brazil and Japan. He has made several recordings with the Polish Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra, and the Polish Radio Orchestra. He has collaborated with Józef Stompel, playing concertos for two pianos by Bach and Mozart, with the wind quintet of the National Polish Radio Symphony (piano quintets by Mozart and Beethoven), and has performed six times at the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk. In January 2006, he gave concerts on Tokyo.

In 1962, he began his teaching career at the State High School of Music in Katowice. In 1973-1996 and 2003-2005, he was Head of the Piano Department at this academy. In 1979-1982 he also headed the piano class at the Music Academy in Stuttgart.

He has educated a large number of concert pianists and teachers, including Krystian Zimerman, Joanna Domańska, Jerzy Sterczyński, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Magdalena Lisak, Zbigniew Raubo, Rafał Łuszczewski and Beata Bilińska.

He has sat in the juries of the leading international piano competitions, including the Queen Elisabeth in Brussels, Peter Tchaikovsky in Moscow, Van Cliburn in Fort Worth, and Ferruccio Busoni in Bolzano. In 1975, he made his debut as a juror at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, and was President of its Jury in 2000 and 2005. He also holds masterclasses in many musical centres around the world, including at the Salzburg Mozarteum.

In 2005 Andrzej Jasiński was invited to the Programme Board of the NIFC and in the same year he was promoter of the honorary doctorate bestowed upon Krystian Zimerman at the Music Academy in Katowice. In December 2006, Andrzej Jasiński was himself awarded with an honorary doctorate of this Academy. The laudation was given by prof. Józef Stompel, and the ceremony was accompanied by the launch of the book Andrzej Jasiński: The Artist and the Man by Iwona Bias and Monika Bieda. In May 2007 he was also awarded with an honorary doctorate of The Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
